Choose a recreational property in Fairplay, Colorado and you have the best of all worlds.  At an elevation of 9,896 feet in beautiful Park County (South Park), real estate in Fairplay CO is fairly priced.  It lies equidistant from the amenities of Denver and Colorado Springs as well as the Pike National Forest and ski resorts in Breckenridge, Keystone, and Copper Mountain.  With hunting, fly fishing, mountain biking, cross-country skiing and other recreational options right outside the door, a second home in Fairplay, Colorado lends itself to vacations and reunions for years to come.  This is "Where the Real West Lives."

Interestingly, Fairplay CO homes have an address chosen by gold prospectors who settled here in 1859.  They were actually driven away from nearby Tarryall by miners.  In "Fair Play" every man was given an equal chance to stake a claim.

Plan to see the area during the end of July when the Annual Burro Days celebrates the role of the burro during the period of gold and silver mining.  This celebration has been a big hit for over fifty years.  Or come in August for Train Days celebrating the narrow-gauge railroad that ran from Como Round House over Boreas Pass.  But, come anytime and browse through the South Park City Museum and its 34 authentic buildings filled with over 60,000 artifacts from frontier boomtown life.  The Museum sheds light on the history of the old west and western mining.  Once you learn a bit, you will have no problem spotting the remains of the mining era that mark the surrounding countryside.

The headquarters for the South Park Ranger District for over a million acres of Pike National Forest is located in town.  Your family will enjoy getting a taste of the serenity of camping in campgrounds, fishing, mountain biking, hiking, winter sports, and much more.  Local vendors and outfitters offer excursions on horseback, snowmobile, mountain bike, jeep, and other interesting experiences such as cattle drives.

Located 21 miles north of Antero Junction on U.S. Hwy 285, which runs through Pike National Forest between Poncha Springs and Morrison, the main routes into the area are U.S. Hwy 24, U.S. Hwy 285, and State Hwy 9.  South Park Chamber of Commerce is an excellent source for community and vacation information, including more information about the above activities.
