One of the best reasons to buy some Breckenridge, Colorado real estate to vacation in is for the sheer joy of Breckenridge’s community festivals along the Victorian Main Street.  Sometime during January each year, a weeklong celebration of Ullr, the mythical Norse God of Snow, includes live entertainment, a Nordic event, the Ullympics, an ice-skating party, and a legendary Main Street Parade.  Residents of Breckenridge CO homes join alongside guests and seasonal residents for all of the fun.

Owning a vacation real estate in Breckenridge—a fractional, a condo, a home—allows your family to zip into town during these special times.  Snow blessed the 2008 Ullr Parade that showcased 20 quirky floats for the “wacky” event.  First-place honors went to the Grand Lodge at Peak 7 and Ullr Schnapps float called Ullr Party Train.

In Norse mythology, Ullr is the winter god, son of Sif and stepson of Thor, God of Thunder.  Ullr loves the cold and travels over the countryside and hunting in the Northern Forests on skis or skates.  Ullr covers the earth with snow during the winter to protect it from harm.  During one of his travels, he came to our town and decided to settle down.  Ullr brings some of the finest snow in the world to our slopes.

The Ullr Fest is a way for the community to honor the God of Winter and give thanks for the beautiful snow.  It all started in 1963 when a few of the locals lobbied the Town Council to start “Ullr Dag” or Ullr Day.  As the years rolled on, locals did more than throw gold coins, party, and ski for the vent.  The Ullr Ball, Ullr bonfire, Ullr Parade, Snow Sculpting, Ullr King and Queen, and the Ullympics at times take center stage.

Many people travel for miles to come see the magnificent Snow Sculptures that emerge every year from big blocks of frozen snow.  Traveled artisans and locals vie for positions in the contest every year.  Onlookers marvel at the process, skills, and incredible sculpted results that take shape.  There is definitely something magical about the unique snowflakes that settle upon our community every year.

So, the Ullr Fest is about fun and parties and camaraderie and appreciation and the community welcomes everyone to come see for themselves.  While you are here, contact Jonna Beardsley, GRI and long-time resident, for guidance finding perfect vacation ownership for your family.
