Nicklaus-Designed Breckenridge Golf Club

All year long, the championship Breckenridge Golf Club is a pride and joy of the Town of Breckenridge.   As the only Jack Nicklaus-designed municipal course in the world, the 27-hole course successfully integrates exclusive resort living in nearby Breckenridge, Colorado real estate with an open-spirited community feel.  Surrounded by the gorgeous homes in the neighborhoods of Highlands at Breckenridge, the three 9-hole courses of the Breckenridge Golf Club also offer sweeping Rocky Mountain vistas.  But residents and visitors from other Breckenridge CO homes and real estate throughout Summit County also make great use of the splendid mountain courses.

Breckenridge Golf Club continues to be honored both nationally and regionally.  The Colorado Golfer named it the Best Mountain Course and Toughest Mountain Course.  Golf Digest chose it as one of their top Upscale Places to Play in the nation.  It well deserves the 4 ½ star rating and is Zagat rated, too.  With four sets of tees, every golfer can find a niche and decide on a rotation.  The course plays 7,145 yards with a rating of 73.5 and slope rating of 151 for its Elk/Beaver rotation and features a wonderful practice facility.  Try it along at the grass-tee driving range, practice greens for putting and chipping, and the sand bunker or hire a qualified golf instructor to assist you with your game.

The first two courses, the Bear and the Beaver, opened up in 1985 followed in 2001 by the Elk nine and its dramatic elevation changes.  At elevations over 9,300 feet, the golf ball flies farther and straighter and the cooler summer temperatures (usually under 80 degrees F) infuse the game with freshness.  From the open native grassland and wetland to dense woods to snowcapped Rockies, it is no wonder that wildlife also frolic along the greens.  Yes, beaver, deer, elk, red fox and red tailed hawks add movement in the trees, and are occasionally joined by moose and bear.

Refreshments and appetizers, meals and cocktails at the Club 28 Restaurant are better than par for the course.  The Thursday Night BBQ is a community favorite but the Club 28 provides on course cart service with hot food and box lunches and on-site catering for groups.  The resident Pro Shop has been awarded the “America’s 100 Best Golf Shops” honor eight times.  Golfers can find logo gifts and the latest in golf equipment.
The Golf Club offers specials and golf packages, group outings, programs, Women’s Leagues, and Men’s Leagues and a full calendar of events.  Additionally, resident golfers can purchase Adult Golf Pass Cards and Junior Golf Pass Cards.

Historically, the landscape, once a tent city of miners seeking their fortunes in golf, was referred to as Buffalo Flats.  And the Bear Course, the Beaver Course, and the Elk Course are, of course, named after the early and present-day inhabitants.
