Bountiful Summit County Waters

By Jonna Beardsley

Owning a second home in Breckenridge, Silverthorne CO real estate or property in Keystone or Dillon, your fishing vacations will be all set up.  Rocky Mountain real estate in Colorado’s Summit County comes with bountiful crystal-clear fishing holes.  After all, four of Colorado’s largest rivers, the Lake Dillon Reservoir, signature hatches, numerous creeks and beaver ponds are present near Summit County’s vacation homes.

The Blue River flows through Breckenridge CO real estate past Dillon and Silverthorne homes to the Green Mountain Reservoir.  Our Upper Blue fishers tend to move on to Park County following the Platte and the Arkansas.  From the Silverthorne and Frisco are, those fishing the Lower Blue head north to the Colorado River.  Then there’s the Snake River that meanders through Keystone and the Eagle River that heads west through Vail.  Truth is that fishers move around for variety, new challenges, and to capture the moment.
Man’s involvement in the area has given the Blue River fairly consistent temperatures.  The construction of the Dillon Reservoir at the headwaters of the Lower Blue allows for the warming of those waters.  The dredge-mining a hundred years ago created a virtual heating pad beneath the waters that promotes year round fishing in the area’s pale waters.

According to the Colorado Summit Magazine, summer/fall 2008 issue, extraordinary moments like the blue-wing olive baetis hatch on the Arkansas in late March and April, the salmon fly hatch on the Colorado River in June, and July’s green drake hatch in the Blue River emerge suddenly.  During this year’s green drake hatch, one fisher witnessed the river begin to pop with the rising of very big trout in pursuit.  Another who was stationed around the bend saw nothing.

But, no one need go home empty handed with expert guides around and plenty of the famed rainbow trout filling the region.  Mountain Anglers, Breckenridge Outfitters, Summit Guides, Cutthroat Anglers, and Blue River Anglers make it their business to assure outings day and night throughout the year.  Yes, it is the case that some fish only come around in the dark and newcomers may need a guide to shed light on the subject.

When your second home is only a few steps away, take your pick from an array of settings—from roaring rivers to quiet beaver ponds—or sample them all.  Invite your family and friends to enjoy the mystical waters in the area with you.  For caring real-estate service in the Summit County resort areas, contact Jonna Beardsley of Breckenridge Associates at (970) 453-2200 or (800) 774-7970.
